Orofacial / Myofunctional therapy

Best for mouth breathers, thumb sucking, and orthodontic support.

We serve children, teens, and adults.

The AOMT* explains that “Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. OMDs may affect, directly and/or indirectly, breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth, and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, stability of orthodontic treatment, facial esthetics, and more”.

Here in BrainStorm Speech therapy, we can help to:

  • Optimize nasal breathing

  • Achieve proper resting posture for oral structures

  • Optimize chewing and swallowing

  • Eliminate the use of unhealthy muscle compensatory patterns

  • Correct placement for sound production

Irene is currently a certified provider of the Simon Says program including the Tongue Tips therapy protocol, Tiny Tongue Tips (Early intervention/play-based approach), and Thumbs up! (a thumb-sucking elimination program), and is constantly enriching her skills with the best evidence-based practices to treat OMDs.
