Irene is a Colombian-American bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist and founder of Brainstorm Speech-Language Therapy, with 18 years of experience working with children ages 0-18. She is licensed by the Virginia Board of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists and by the New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”), holds a teacher of students with speech and language disabilities (TSSLD) certificate in New York, and is trained in various therapeutic approaches, including SCERTS, Gestalt Language Processing, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Orofacial Myofunctional therapy, and more. Irene is also certified in Early Intervention and continues to expand her knowledge in feeding, bilingualism, and myofunctional therapy.

Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Irene holds a Master's in Speech and Language Pathology from Universitat de VIC, Spain,  and Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She began her career in New York City, where she developed a deep understanding of cultural diversity and the value of an interdisciplinary approach. In 2015, she moved to Northern Virginia, where she further honed her skills in collaborative, family-centered therapy before founding Brainstorm Speech Therapy.

Irene is the creator of the La Cuenterapeuta podcast, where she shares captivating stories and practical tips to help enhance language skills in Spanish. Her passion for giving back extends beyond her work with families—she volunteered with Smiles for Speech on their mission to Cuba, providing essential support to communities in need. Irene is also dedicated to supporting the SLP community by translating important resources into Spanish, ensuring that Spanish-speaking families have access to proper information and community resources in their home language. In addition, she offers her expertise as a freelance Spanish language instructor and community translator.

Irene is deeply committed to the power of community and continuously seeks ways to uplift those around her. Whether it’s supporting her team, connecting with local neighbors, or serving the families in her care, she dedicates herself to sharing her skills, compassion, and wholehearted support in every interaction.
