Founder & Lead SLP

Hola! I am Irene Gutiérrez, BST owner & your

Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist.

Nice to meet you!

Irene Gutiérrez is a Colombian-American Bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist, founder, and owner of BrainStorm Speech-Language Therapy with 16 years of experience providing therapy to children between 0 and 18 years.

Currently, she holds licenses to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of New York. Irene also holds a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) certificate in the State of New York and is trained in the following methods, approaches and models:

Feel free to click the links below to know more about her professional training

Irene also volunteers with Smiles for Speech, translates speech therapy materials into Spanish, SLP translation services, and created a Facebook group with more than 800 Latinx Speech and Language pathologists around the States.

Representation Matters! #latinaslp

Irene is also the voice and creator behind La Cuenterapeuta, a podcast featuring short stories for kids and tips for parents to enhance language and communication skills in Spanish, and has recently embarked on the blogging world adventure!

Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Irene graduated from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, completed her second degree in Audiology, and got her Master's in Speech and Language Pathology from Universitat de VIC from Barcelona, Spain.

Irene moved to the States in 2012 to work in New York City with a private agency that participated in the Early Intervention Program. The NYC experience taught Irene to be resilient, empathetic, and to ask questions to get places.  In NYC, Irene worked with many families from different cultural and social backgrounds, which helped her improve her practices with humility and humanity.

Irene found love and a new professional opportunity in the DMV area, which led her to say goodbye to the Big Apple and hello to the Land of Lovers: Virginia.

In 2015, Irene moved to Northern Virginia to work as a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist in a clinic where she learned to be part of a team. Working with PTs, OTs, and other SLPs, taught Irene the power of a holistic approach and the importance of a multi-interdisciplinary team in each kid's success.

Irene found the missing link when she learned all about the coaching model approach in the early intervention program and realized that her dream was built in a collaborative effort.  She finally understood that her years of clinical experience needed to be shared at the center of all learning: THE FAMILY.

This is why she created BrainStorm Speech Therapy.

BrainStorm is a verb with two definitions: (1) to try to solve a problem or come up with new ideas by having a discussion that includes all members of a group and (2) a sudden bright idea.

Brainstorm is a synonym of COMMUNICATION.

And that is who we are and what we do here at BrainStorm.  We are on a mission to help your kid and your family to communicate more and better.

So, let’s talk, together we will find the solution!
